To All Parents and Guardians:

The Summer of 2017 is coming to an end and the excitement is building for the upcoming school year.  I hope everyone had time with friends and family and ensured your children continued to read and do some Math problems during the down time!

My Summer was spent with friends and family and also reflecting upon goals for the 2017-2018. Our teachers and administration decided our overarching theme for Professional Development this year is “Building Student Independence”.  This addresses our goal of improving achievement and developing self-directed learners.  Our training and goals for this year will be designed around this theme as we challenge our students to achieve their potential.  Our responsibility as educators is to be in a constant state of improvement to ensure we meet your children’s needs in the constantly changing landscape of technology, careers, and society.

Our PARCC scores were released and are once again excellent!  I would like to thank our entire educational community for making academic achievement a priority and to all of our staff for creating an amazing learning environment and delivering outstanding instruction.  I will release a summary of our scores and present an overview at a Board of Education meeting this Fall.  We will again mail home individual scores early this school year.

It is important to celebrate successes and embrace new pathways we take toward excellence. Below is a list of new initiatives for the 2017-2018 school year (click highlighted links for additional information):

  • Our Pre-School is opening with 16 students and a brand new HighScope Curriculum
  • STMath Program for Pre-K-5 students (replacing Study Island)
  • Renaissance Learning Analytics (Star 360, Accelerated Reader/Math) grades 6-8
  • Project Launch (STEAM) implementing in Grades 3-5
  • Additional STEAM activities in grades 6-8
  • New Robotics club at Hoppock School
  • Strategic Planning kickoff Fall 2017 - all stakeholders invited!

We are inviting everyone to provide input into our Strategic Plan and will plan meetings in conjunction with school activities to get maximum participation.  Please come out to help us develop our goals and objectives for the next several years.

Below are the dates for our Back to School nights where we invite you to come out and meet our staff!

September 13th – Thomas B. Conley Back to School Night - 6:30 PM
September 14th – Ethel Hoppock Back to School Night - 6:30 PM

The PTA will be hosting a “Meet the Principal/Chief School Administrator” for both me and Mrs. Smith this Fall and I invite everyone to come out to discuss any successes, concerns, or issues at our schools.  We have developed some achievable goals for this school year and they are as follows:

  • Improve Communication with all stakeholders
  • Increase Professional Development offerings for all staff
  • Implement new Learning Capacity - Building Solutions for Math, English Language Arts
  • Offer additional elective courses focused on STEAM
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for staff and students
  • Develop a Long-Range Strategic Plan with input from our entire educational community

We will also be celebrating successes throughout the year at Board of Education meetings and with the PTA so please get involved with our educational community.

We are looking forward to another great year!

Sincerely,

Gregory C. Farley, Ed.D.
